Cathy’s on a Winning Streak

Cathy's On A Winning Streak

AG’s Cathy Donnelly had cause for celebration at the weekend as her Ladies GAA Football team, St Macartan’s lifted the Tyrone Senior Championship.

This was a momentous occasion for Cathy, AG’s Health and Safety and Environment Manager, who not only captained the team to success but also picked up the “Official Player of the Match” scoring a total of 8 points (1 goal and 5 points).

The latest success adds to an impressive haul of medals over her playing career, which includes 5 Senior Championships at Club Level, 2 Senior Ulster Championships at County Level and achieving ‘All Star’ status in 2010.

When asked about her latest triumph Cathy was modest as ever:

“It ‘s lovely winning the player of the match and to contribute to the victory. Although the most important thing is that the team won and it was such a monumental group effort. I am just delighted to captain this wonderful group of ladies and this experience is something that I will treasure for a long time.”

A Family Affair

This was to be the eighth Tyrone Ladies Senior Championship title for the club, since they first collected the honours back in 1994 and it was a family affair. Cathy played alongside Donnelly sisters Joline, Maria and Paula and cousin Lynda, making the occasion even more special.Cathy's Football Honours

As if lifting the Senior Championship and receiving the player of the match wasn’t enough,  there was an added special presentation for Cathy who picked up the prestigious accolade of being named on the “Team of 25 years”.  The big question for Cathy is what next?

Looking to the Future

After such a positive weekend, the big question for Cathy is what next?

We are training for the Ulster Club Quarter Final against County Down Champions Bredagh on  2nd October and will play Dungannon in the Tyrone League Final in the coming weeks. After that, there’s the small matter of getting married in December!”

Congratulations to Cathy and St Macartan’s Ladies Football team and we wish them every success in their future endeavours!
