Fuelling innovation: AG collaborates with local schools as part of annual SafeDay campaign

Leading paving and building manufacturer, AG, recently launched a competition with local schools to coincide with its annual Health, Safety and Wellbeing campaign.

Wellbeing is one of a set of five core values at AG who are committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for its 230-strong workforce. The firm has a dedicated health and wellbeing programme, Activ8, which aims to promote and improve employees physical and mental health through various events and campaigns throughout the year.

As part of this campaign, AG launched its now-annual SafeDay, a health and safety initiative led by CEO, Stephen Acheson alongside the Health, Safety and Environment team which encourages staff to ‘make safety personal’ by focusing on the health and safety risks across all AG sites.

Established 60 years ago, AG believe that by working in partnership with employees, local community and all stakeholders the company can have a positive impact on society. As part of their CSR commitment the firm invited local schools to get involved the 2023 SafeDay campaign.

Nutrition is a key focal point of AG’s Activ8 programme, with the firm regularly organising nutrition awareness sessions with local dietitians as well as ensuring all staff have access to fresh fruit on site.

The competition winners were awarded Amazon vouchers and invited to attend nutrition and wellbeing sessions alongside their teachers during the company’s annual ‘SafeDay’ at AG’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, based in Fivemiletown.

The easy-to-prepare winning recipes were packed with complex carbohydrates to keep energy levels up as well as fruit and vegetables loaded with vitamins and minerals to boost the immune system. Theses recipes ideas were then presented to AG Staff to help them on their healthy eating journey.

Cathy Maguire HSEQ Manager commented:

“It was a delight to collaborate with local schools within the area for this competition. We believe that initiatives such as this can also help with health promotion in our local community. The response was great and there were so many innovative and creative recipes produced – it was extremely difficult to choose a winner!

“The wellbeing of our employees is one of our core values at AG and we want to encourage healthy eating as part of our longstanding commitment improving both physical and psychological safety.”
