AG has once again achieved Platinum Status in the Business in the Community (BITC) Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey, marking the third consecutive year the company has earned the highest level of recognition for environmental performance. This top distinction was awarded to only 41 of the 150 participating organisations across Northern Ireland’s key sectors.

This year, AG reported a 54.5% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions – direct and energy-related emissions from operations – against its 2019 baseline, alongside a 5.7% reduction in Scope 3 emissions, which cover indirect emissions across its supply chain, compared to 2021. These reductions demonstrate the third-generation company’s commitment to lowering carbon emissions across its operations and wider value chain as part of its Climate Action Pledge with BITC.

Over one-third of AG’s vehicle fleet is now electric, supported by a partnership with neighbouring Tullyweel Farm, which produces biomethane to power EV chargers and the company’s wash plant. The company also switched to 3T Power this year, sourcing locally produced renewable energy to power the remainder of it’s operations.

AG further strengthened its credentials by receiving the prestigious “Excellent” rating under the BES6001 Framework, recognising its leadership in responsible sourcing and sustainable supply chain practices.

Innovation and efficiency remain central to AG’s approach, with the launch of Diamond Pro Air, a lighter, fully recyclable product manufactured using 100% renewable energy and a blend of secondary and locally quarried materials. The company’s Woodward brick range was also recognised as BITC’s 2025 Responsible Product/Service of the Year, highlighting AG’s commitment to low-carbon, innovative construction materials.

Environmental responsibility extends beyond manufacturing. In 2024, AG established a dedicated conservation area as part of its commitment to the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan in partnership with a local beekeeper, including on-site honey hives. The company’s holistic approach to sustainability is reflected in its award-winning Activ8 health and wellbeing programme, accredited at Level 3 under the “Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing” framework. The programme recently received recognition including the “Wellbeing at Work” award at BITC’s Responsible Business Awards and the “Safer through Improvements in Health & Safety” award at the MPA Health & Safety Awards.

Already acknowledged as a leader in responsible business practices, AG is a well-decorated company, holding awards including Best Sustainable Business (SME) at the 2025 Irish News Workplace & Employment Awards, Sustainable Manufacturing Business of the Year at the 2024 Business Eye Sustainability Awards, and Green Exporter of the Year at the 2024 All-Ireland Sustainability Awards.

Stephen Acheson, CEO of AG, commented:

“We are incredibly proud to be named a Top Performer and achieve Platinum Status for a third consecutive year in the BITC Environmental Benchmarking Survey. Sustainability is at the heart of AG, and this achievement reflects the real, measurable changes we continue to make across our business, our products, and our communities. It is a testament to the dedication of our entire team and our commitment to building a more sustainable future. This distinction inspires us to push further, innovate smarter, and lead the way towards a truly sustainable construction industry.”
