AG has kicked off 2025 with its Safety Reboot, a cornerstone of the company’s #GoHomeSafe campaign. This initiative reflects AG’s commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing – empowering every employee to work safer and live healthier every day.

Building on the success of previous years, AG’s 2025 Safety Reboot engaged employees with 10 interactive sessions over a 10-day period. These sessions tackled a range of critical safety topics, including incident prevention, wellbeing, PPE, Lockout-Tagout procedures, and AG’s innovative Good Catch initiative.

Led by supervisors across AG’s manufacturing sites, the sessions raised awareness, reinforced best practices, and encouraged proactive safety behaviours. Key highlights included updates to AG’s award-winning wellbeing programme, a focus on the newly launched EngagePro HSEQ reporting system, and the ongoing mission to eliminate the Fatal 6 risks – the most common causes of serious workplace injuries.

Last year was a landmark period for AG, showcasing its leadership in safety and wellbeing through a series of significant achievements. At the prestigious MPA Health and Safety Awards, AG was honoured with the Sir Frank Davies Award for outstanding commitment to health and safety, the Fatal 6 Award for the company’s innovative Lock-Tag-Live initiative, and the Safer Through Improvements in Health & Wellbeing Award.

AG’s in-house health and wellbeing programme, Activ8, was further celebrated with the Wellbeing at Work Award at the Business in the Community (BITC) Responsible Business Awards.

In addition, AG earned a Higher Distinction at the NISO and NISG All-Ireland Occupational Health and Safety Awards – a testament to its proactive approach to workplace safety. This momentum carried through to the end of 2024, when AG achieved a major milestone: one full year without a Lost Time Injury (LTI).

“These recognitions reflect the dedication of our teams to creating a safe and healthy workplace,” said HSEQ Manager Cathy Maguire. “Safety is fundamental to AG’s values, and with initiatives like EngagePro and Activ8, we’re not just meeting industry standards – we’re setting them.”

A key focus of this year’s Safety Reboot was wellbeing. Employees revisited resources available through AG’s Wellbeing Hub, launched in 2024, which continues to provide support for mental and physical health. Supervisors highlighted the ongoing success of the Activ8 programme, which includes tools for managing stress, improving fitness, and enhancing overall wellbeing.

Employees were also reminded of additional benefits like the MetLife Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), offering confidential counselling and financial advice, and the Health Shield programme, which helps cover costs for medical and health related costs.

AG’s Good Catch initiative was another focal point of the reboot. Now powered by EngagePro, the company’s newly launched HSEQ reporting system, it streamlines hazard reporting and encourages employees to share suggestions for improvement. In 2024 alone, AG implemented 1,850 safety improvements as a direct result of employee feedback.

“EngagePro makes it easier than ever for staff to report issues and contribute to a safer workplace,” Cathy Maguire explained. “It’s proof that every employee has the power to shape our safety culture.”

A significant portion of the Safety Reboot focused on incident prevention, particularly addressing the Fatal 6 – the six most common causes of fatalities in the industry. These include slips, trips, and falls; falling materials; and manual handling injuries.

Supervisors reinforced the importance of adhering to AG’s HSEQ policies, using PPE correctly, and following proper procedures to prevent accidents. The message of “Don’t Walk By” remained central, empowering employees to take responsibility for their own safety and that of their colleagues.

AG’s 2025 Safety Reboot lays the foundation for sustained progress in health, safety, and wellbeing. As Cathy Maguire noted, “At AG, our commitment to safety is unwavering. With innovations like EngagePro and programmes like Activ8, we’re creating a culture where every employee can thrive – and go home safe. As we move forward, we’ll continue to push boundaries, ensuring AG remains a leader in workplace safety.”

With its focus on employee engagement, proactive safety measures, and continuous improvement, AG is poised to make 2025 another milestone year for safety and wellbeing. Learn more about the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy here.
