AG’s Vertica® Segmental Retaining Wall (SRW) system played a vital role in the successful delivery of a major housing development for the Vistry Group in Devon. Located on Bay View Road, the site required a robust retaining solution to manage significant changes in elevation, making buildability, durability, and design flexibility critical.
AG’s Vertica® SRW system enabled MJL Contractors and Vistry Group to overcome the site’s complex landscape while meeting technical and aesthetic requirements. With a maximum retained height of 7m and total wall height of approx. 8m, this project sets a new benchmark for retaining wall construction in the region.
Engineered for high-performance walls, Vertica® walling is ideal for geogrid-reinforced soil structures. Delivering superior build speed and structural integrity whilst being aesthetically suited to modern housing developments.

“To our knowledge, this is probably the tallest and longest SRW ever built within a housing scheme in the South West. The SRW was the perfect technical solution for such imponent structure, preferred against other traditional solution such as mass gravity gabions or concrete walls. When designing such tall walls, it is becoming essential to select the right block-geogrids, making sure the system is tested according to ASTM D6638 for the specific loading. Due to the height of the wall, a reinforcement geogrid with an increased junction strength was chosen”.
