The historic Dockside development is a next-generation build-to-rent neighbourhood located in Leith, Edinburgh.

Situated on the 2.5-acre site, positioned directly on Albert Docks, the development provides 373 high-quality homes, including a mix of family and affordable housing, across four modern apartment blocks. Comprising four buildings, each defined by its own AG facing brick, the scheme will offer an impressive range of resident amenities, including a rooftop lounge, dining areas, a fitness centre and dedicated co-working spaces. In addition, the scheme has introduced 1.3 acres of new public realm, designed to enhance connectivity and community spaces within the area.

The development has been delivered in line with a comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, generating over £2 million in socio-economic value. This includes the creation of 60 local jobs and a targeted 55% reduction in operational carbon emissions, establishing Dockside as one of Scotland’s most sustainable residential communities once completed.

AG provided an aesthetically appealing and sustainable alternative to traditional clay brick, meeting the client’s carbon reduction and budgetary objectives. Woodward-facing brick incorporates Enduur 1 advanced concrete technology, delivering superior strength and durability, all with a reduced carbon footprint. All aggregates used in the product mix are sourced from our own quarry, significantly reducing transport requirements and embodied carbon, while offering 46% less carbon than kiln-fired clay brick without compromising performance. AG Woodward bricks were also chosen by the architect due to the coastal location, manufactured to be highly resistant to frost. The key in their specific composition and manufacturing process, which helps them withstand the salt and moisture challenges unique to coastal environments.

Plaza paving in Flaxen colour was used in the surrounding hard landscaping of the Dockside development. Manufactured using high quality, locally sourced granite and quartz aggregates Plaza paving is the UK + Ireland’s lowest carbon premium paving range.
