The Challenge

The Cancer Fund for Children wanted to provide a building for children with cancer and their families to enjoy some respite care.

The building was not only to help the children feel nurtured and safe but was to be practical and energy efficient.

A number of products were specified to create a sustainable development from building materials to hard landscaping.

The Solution

To help Daisy Lodge achieve its environmental standards, AG’s Xflo permeable paving block system was chosen in order for the development to recycle rain water with approximately 2,000m2 laid.

Xflo permeable paving block systems have been specially developed by AG to provide specifiers with an extensive range of high quality, aesthetically pleasing block paving finishes and unit sizes combined with the functional permeability performance required in a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS).

SUDS such as the range of Xflo permeable paving solutions are designed to mimic the natural movement of storm water and replace conventional storm water drainage systems.

To complement Xflo Rectangular paving in Creagh Peat Brindle, AG’s Country Cobble® paving and Bullnose Kerb Setts in Slate Rumbled Kerbs were integrated into the design.

Daisy Lodge also benefitted from an array of other AG products such as Xflo Boulevard Permeable Paving (Slate), Half Batter Kerbs, Radius Kerbs and Dropper Kerbs, Basalt Textured Oakland Brick, Charcoal Mortar, Manhole Rings and Cover Slabs – ensuring the finish was of a high standard.

“We put together a design that would be functional and aesthetically pleasing. Daisy Lodge is the first facility of its kind in Europe and it is testament to AG’s innovative products and solutions that we were part of this successful project that has been shortlisted for building industry awards.”
