The Challenge

Train travellers using Portadown station have been delighted with a new Park and Ride facility built close to the rail station – and AG products played an essential role in the delivery of the much needed extra parking spaces.

The long-awaited £3.1million Park and Ride facility is sited at the junction of Corcrain Road and Northway in Portadown and features parking for 347 vehicles along with extended cycle storage facilities to enhance passenger security and convenience.

The Solution

The project necessitated the inclusion of a retaining wall on a bank below the main road, and Banbridge contractor, Gibson Bros Ltd worked with retaining wall specialist Maccaferri to construct a retaining wall using £22,000 worth of AG’s Anchor® Vertica® 4° Basalt retaining wall product.

Designed for steep, sloping hillsides and other traditionally difficult installation areas, Vertica walls can be built to virtually any height in incredibly tight spaces thanks to patented, built-in alignment locators and a near vertical rise for less excavation and land loss.

Typically used with geosynthetic reinforcement, Vertica® blocks meet or exceed industry standards for strength and durability.
